Senior dog care is quite different than caring for a puppy or adult dog. And your aging pet’s changing needs may not be entirely obvious at first.
Jennifer Kachnic is an expert on caring for your senior dog and has written a book on the topic. Join her new class “Senior Dog Care” and learn to both identify and care for your older dog’s health needs.
Here are some tips from Jennifer on a great nutritional source for your dog:
The Power of Pumpkins for Dogs
1. Pureed or canned pumpkin can help dogs with stomach issues including both constipation and diarrhea. Pumpkin absorbs the excess water present in the stool, yet can also soften hard stools.
2. Pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and antioxidants (good for healthy skin and fur).
3. The seeds are also an excellent source of Vitamin A, Magnesium, Vitamin E, beta-carotene, potassium and iron.
4. Just add a half to two teaspoons of pumpkin (depending upon the size of your dog) to your dog’s food to boost fiber and aid in digestion.
5. Is your dog a bit overweight? Cut down on the kibble and augment with some pumpkin.
This class is not currently offered at CFU, but we hope you enjoyed the information.
